The ladies of the James family are taking on a new challenge in support of Parkinson's UK, inspired by our wonderful Pops.
We're each committing to running 50 miles in 50 days to help raise money to fund further research into a cure for Parkinson's Disease. 1 mile a day might not sound like much, but we're all starting from scratch!
Pops was diagnosed almost 15 years ago but continues to take his condition in his stride. A few years after his diagnosis he decided to take early retirement, but anyone who knows him will know he didn't do this in order to slow down or rest more! Dad has thrown himself into the local community, setting up the Huthwaite Hub as a place of friendship, support, learning new skills, and fun for those in the area who might otherwise spend a lot of their time suffering from loneliness. Add all of this into a mix of busy family life, many hours given to voluntary driving for cancer patients, Duke of Edinburgh weekends, Grancha duties, and continuing to support and spend time with his growing family. Our Pops is and loves to be a busy bee!
Pops was recently given the opportunity to have Deep Brain Stimulation surgery, which we hope will give him more good days and alleviate many of the symptoms of his condition. He is recovering from the surgery incredibly well, and is already off walking about 5 miles a week, playing with his 2 grandkids, and back in full swing in his beloved kitchen cooking everyone a Sunday roast!
We want more people to benefit from the research which allowed our Pops this opportunity, as well as the support and care provided by specialist Parkinson's nurses. Anything you're able to give will help Parkinson's UK in their invaluable work and motivate to keep on running!
The challenge starts on 26th Feb and we'll keep you updated on our progress.
